Do you ever have those moments where you start to think about how big something really is? And then the potential impacts of that make it where you almost can't even breath? Well, that is me today in a big way. I've been dealing with a ton of braxton hicks contractions and some real contractions mixed in (for a few weeks now). The cramping and discomfort got bad enough on Wednesday that I had to leave work. I finally called my doctor and they had me go to Labor & Delivery. I was actually having contractions but they are irregular and sometimes my uterus won't relax at all in between. I have what they call an irritable uterus. Hopefully these contractions won't change my cervix at all (which was nice and long 3 weeks ago when it was checked at the last ultrasound). Anyway, I was told to stay home and rest yesterday... that helped as long as I was laying down. Once I stood up, or sometimes even rolled from one side to the other they started right back up. Now I'm thinking: I have 12-ish weeks left of this pregnancy, what if I'm put on bedrest? What will we do? I don't have that kind of time off saved up and we can't afford for me to just not work for 3 months. It's totally stressing me out, which is probably not helping the situation at all. I'm working today and hoping that things stay calm. If I had a job that meant sitting at a desk all day I'd be less worried... but I don't, so I'm stressed and scared.
Enough of that... lets have some Friday fun!
1. Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
Well, we do Christmas Eve at my Grandparents house where all the gifts from extended family are exchanged (which really just means all the little kids get inundated with gifts, I have great memories of when I was the little kid!). We get up Christmas morning and get showered then open our gifts between just us. There are usually only a few and then we head over to my Dad's house where things get down to business. From there we head to Sean's parents house and do gifts after dinner. It's really an exhausting day, but we're fortunate to have so much family to spend the holidays with. Luckily, we usually do Christmas with my mom a week or so early, which totally saves my sanity.
2. What is your favorite Christmas cookie (or candy)?
Oh, homemade Almond Rocha... yum yum yum.
3. What's the worst Christmas gift you've ever received?
I don't think there is a worst because they were, after all, gifts. No one is obligated to get anyone anything so I wouldn't ever speak down about getting one. But I can tell you about my most memorable gift! My first Christmas with Sean's family... we had been dating about 4 months and I was a little nervous (now that I know them, to be nervous is just silly). So we open all of our gifts and the kids run off to play with their new stuff. Everyone is chatting and Sean's mom brings out these little tiny boxes and all the adults are like "Oh yeah! Sweet!" So, they know exactly what is going on. "Lindsey, open yours first!" So, I do... and I just stare in the box for a while before pulling out the skimpiest, raciest pair of panties I've ever seen in my life. Everyone laughs and I'm totally embarrassed, then the next person opens their box: same type of thing. This is apparently a tradition in their family, I love it now but I was so shocked I didn't know what to say the first time. Everyone has a "First Austin Christmas underwear story" and I love it.
4. Christmas song that you love?
Carol of the Bells, especially when I can hear it done by my old High School choir... it's amazing.
5. How many trees do you put up?
Ha! We're lucky when we get one up... I don't know how people do multiple trees. And, can you imagine having to take down more than one? No thanks. We did put one up this year, I'm quite proud of myself for doing so.
Head on over to Mama M's to check out more!
